Conn-Selmer Welcomes Web Music Retailer ArkivMusic

In a unique partnership that links instrument performance, musical recordings and music education, Conn-Selmer and Arkiv Music have announced that recordings of Conn-Selmer artists are now available through the ArkivMusic and Conn-Selmer websites.   Additionally, special offers of particular interest to wind music fans will be made to subscribers to Conn-Selmer Keynotes online magazine.

Online retailer ArkivMusic -- The Source for Classical Musicô (http://www.arkivmusic.com) is the newest subsidiary of Conn-Selmerís parent company Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc., and offers the largest selection of classical music recordings available anywhere.  The company has over 90,000 CD, DVD, SACD and DVD Audio titles in its database including nearly 6,000 previously out-of-print recordings produced "on-demand" through its ArkivCD program.

Through its partnership with Conn-Selmer, ArkivMusic is actively expanding its database of wind ensemble and band repertoire with Bach, Selmer, C.G. Conn, King and other Conn-Selmer artists.  Both classical and non-classical titles are now available and easily reached through the www.conn-selmer.com artist site.  Free subscriptions to Keynotes and the special recording offers are available at www.keynotesmagazine.com.

"ArkivMusic is an amazing resource for students, teachers, professionals and aficionados," said Conn-Selmer CEO John Stoner.  "With a few clicks of a mouse, an absolute wealth of recordings is available for listening, learning, demonstration and enjoyment."

Since opening its cyber doors in February 2002, ArkivMusic has sold well over a million recordings.  The company was founded by twin brass-playing brothers, Eric and Jon Feidner, along with a few other fellow music-industry and technology veterans.  They have extensive experience in traditional and internet record retailing and with ArkivMusic they looked to provide more efficient access to the deep, specialized, niche catalog for classical music.

And that catalog keeps expanding.  ArkivMusic has licensing deals with all four major label groups and over two dozen independent labels to manufacture out-of-print discs, using just-in-time systems for producing, packaging, and shipping. The ArkivCD program is an example of what Wired Magazineís Chris Anderson has dubbed "The Long Tail," where the business of the future is selling less of more. ArkivMusic offers these previously unavailable CDs alongside a complete selection of practically every classical recording currently in print ñ including thousands of recordings for concert band, wind ensembles, brass quintets, percussion ensembles, solo concert repertoire for all instruments, and much more.

"Collaborating with Conn-Selmer is a personal treat for us," says ArkivMusic General Manager Jon Feidner. "Brass music is in our bones.  My brother Eric has a Conn 8D French horn, I play a Benge 290 bass trombone, and Iím looking to replace my King tenor which was stolen in NYC."

"I invite all of our artists, teachers and students to explore ArkivMusic.com," says Conn-Selmer Artist Relations Manager Rebecca Weissman.  "The cooperative efforts of our two companies to expand ArkivMusicís wind and percussion titles will help make the catalog a truly valuable resource for music educators and performers."
