Meet Michael Allen
Editor of Selmer String Notes

Conn-Selmer, Inc. welcomes you to The Selmer String Notes and its new editor, Michael Allen.

Dr. Allen currently serves as Assistant Professor of music education at Florida State University. His education includes degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of North Texas. A string education specialist, Dr. Allen began his teaching career in the public schools of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Following a graduate fellowship at the University of North Texas, he served as String Coordinator for the Denton Independent School District (Texas) and director of the Denton High School Orchestra for eight years. Under his direction, the Denton High School Orchestra appeared in concert at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 1986, 1988, 1990 and 1992 as the TMEA Honor Orchestra. The Denton High School Orchestra appeared at the 1986 Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic and the 1988 MENC National Convention in Indianapolis. Dr. Allen is Past President of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association and is the founding President of the Texas Chapter of the National School Orchestra Association. He currently serves on the editorial committee for the American String Teacher and as chair of the NSOA Composition Contest. Dr. Allen has published articles in the Instrumentalist, American String Teacher, Applications of Research in Music Education, Florida Music Director, and The Bulletin for the Council for Research in Music Education, and is author of Daily Warmups for String Orchestra. In addition, Dr. Allen is co-author of the Essential Elements for Strings, a comprehensive string method book series by the Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation, and serves as an educational consultant for the Glaesel Stringed Instrument Division of Conn-Selmer, Inc.. He has conducted student orchestras and presented teacher workshops at national and state music educator conferences in eighteen states and Canada. " In addition to my role as an educational consultant for the Glaesel Stringed instrument division of Conn-Selmer, Inc., I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve the string teaching community as editor of The Selmer String Notes."
